What are promotional pillars and why do I need them?
The good old days of using one promotional pillar (eg. placing an advert in your local paper) and then expecting customers to come flooding to your door are sadly over. The simple fact is that customers these days have:
- loads and loads of choice over what they buy, where from and how
- a ridiculous amount of things to distract them
- short attention spans
- multiple preferences for how they make their purchases.
Promotional pillars are the different methods for ensuring that your business’s promotional messages reach the customers that you are targeting, and that the messages are remembered and understood amidst all the other marketing messages that are trying to grab their attention on a daily basis.
What does this mean for my business?
In short it means that you need to ensure that you have different promotional pillars in place to ensure that customers don’t just encounter your promotional messages once, but multiple times, across a range of different ‘platforms’. This means that your messages are embedded and reinforced and that the customer is less likely to forget that you exist, and are more likely to trust your business and give your products and services a try.
